Not long to wait now until the half term holiday! Have you booked a trip away, arranged some family jaunts, or are you going to play it by ear? If you’re one of the millions of people having a think about the upcoming break (if you’re having one that is), we’ve collated some great activity ideas for you. We’ve also selected our best action cameras, for you to capture those precious, fun moments and with the range starting at £19.99 +P&P, they’re family-finance friendly too!
We know lots of families who have come back from days out at Go-Ape (who have centres all over the country), raving about their experiences of zipping through the trees, without having to travel too far for the day out. The videos from their action cams and the screams of exhilaration, or was that fear, from some of the family members have been hilarious. If you’re really brave, you could try Zip World at Plenwyn Quarry in north Wales where you can travel at 100mph on a mile long zip wire, filming on your head cam all the way!
We’ve just come back from a lovely weekend away in Bournemouth and visited Poole Harbour, which is a great sailing spot in Dorset. The sun was out and we saw lots of amateur sailors having fun, filming away on their waterproof action cams. The Solent in Hampshire and the Fal estuary in Cornwall are also recommendations we’ve seen online.
A cycling day out or holiday can be a great, inclusive activity for all ages. We’ve spotted some excellent recommendations online of traffic-free trails, that follow cycling paths and even disused railway lines, in some rural scenic areas. How about cycling & filming in the beautiful The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, The Water Rail Way in Lincolnshire, the Brecon Beacons in Wales, The Quantock Hills in Somerset, or the Cairngorns in Scotland?
We’re lucky enough to have fifteen National Parks in the UK and a huge network of footpaths, signposts and readily available maps, for us to navigate and experience some amazing walks. From seaside areas like the Pembrokeshire coast or in the mountains of the Lake District or Cairngorn regions; the sight of a beautiful valley when you reach a peak, or the glimmer on a lake or the sea, as you round a corner are a great joy on country walks. We love the fact that these beautiful wilderness areas and public spaces are protected and here for us to enjoy and film for free.
The National White Rafting Centre is based on the River Trywern and recommend the river and also the lower section of the Dee for really fast descents, with the upper Wye, upper Dee and the Teifi for your more sedate experience. The Lee Valley White Water Centre in Hertfordshire might be a good introduction to the sports, for those in the South East. Wear one of our Denver waterproof action cameras and capture the whole adrenalin-pumping experience!
